There are days when training feels easy. You’ve slept well, work has been alright and you’re actually looking forward to getting into the gym.

Then there are the other days, when you’re tired, frustrated, distracted or simply not in the mood. Those are usually the days when it’s easiest to convince yourself there’s no point going, but those sessions still count. Not every workout needs to be your best one. You don’t need to lift more than last week, hit a PB or leave completely exhausted for the session to have been worthwhile. Sometimes the win is just getting through the door, moving for an hour and doing what you can with the energy you’ve got that day.

Real consistency isn’t built on the days when motivation is high. It’s built on the average days, when life is busy and training feels like one more thing on the list. That doesn’t mean you have to force yourself through the session exactly as planned either. If you’re tired, sore or just not feeling great, you can go lighter, move slower or adjust the workout. That isn’t failing, it’s just training sensibly.

It’s also worth remembering that progress isn’t only measured in weights, times and scores. Sometimes success is getting to the gym after a rubbish day at work, choosing to move when you would normally skip it, or simply leaving the gym feeling better than when you walked in. Fitness is built over months and years, and plenty of those sessions are going to happen when you’re not feeling 100%.

So next time you’re debating whether to bother, take the pressure off yourself, yu don’t need to smash it you just turn up, do what you can, and remember that it all counts.
