From Commercial Gyms to Community Strength
Hi, I’m Anna. I’m in my 40s, a teacher, and mum to a 16-year-old son. Before joining CrossFit Jorvik, I’d dipped in and out of commercial gyms, but honestly, I never really knew how to lift weights properly. I’d exercise here and there, but it wasn’t as much as I wanted, and it never really stuck.
Then I joined Jorvik. What started as “giving it a try” quickly became a huge part of my life. Not only do I now love training, but I’ve also found a community that I truly enjoy spending time with.
Building Strength And Belief
One of the biggest surprises? How much stronger I’ve become. I’ve built visible muscle, and I can now do pull-ups and chin-ups - something I never thought possible.
In April, I even completed a HYROX event. Before joining, I’d never have believed I could do something like that. Looking back, I thought I was fit… but I really wasn’t. The progress has been eye-opening.
More Than Just Fitness
The changes haven’t just been physical. Training here has given me confidence that spills into every part of my life. From my social life to my work as a teacher. Knowing I can push myself in the gym makes me feel stronger in everything else I do.
It’s also changed how I view health. In the past, I used to train mostly for how I looked. Now, it’s about how I feel, and about setting a positive example for my son. Eating well, exercising regularly, and focusing on longevity matters so much more than appearance.
The Support That Makes the Difference
What really sets CrossFit Jorvik apart for me was the coaching. From the beginning, there was a huge focus on technique, so I finally learned how to lift safely and effectively. The coaches also shared advice on nutrition and lifestyle. Even small changes, like cutting off coffee at lunchtime, have made a massive difference to my sleep and recovery.
That level of support has been game-changing.
“My Only Regret Is Not Starting Sooner”
Looking back, I wish I’d started 10 or even 20 years earlier. But I’m so glad I’m here now.
If you’re thinking about it, my advice is simple: just come down and try it. You might be surprised by what you’re capable of.
